I think we’ve all seen the outrage over the policing system in America in recent weeks. We have seen the injustice on video, we have heard these empowering words spoken that ring and resonate in our ears.
But we keep overlooking the injustice that happens within our judicial system. We keep looking at the streets and forgetting about the courtrooms.
This site is FREEBEYIV.org, it was started by the campaign to free Yusuf Bey IV. Our mission is to free this political prisoner and bring him back into our community.
About the Case
If you’re here, you probably already know what an amazing man and a fantastic person he is. As CEO of Your Black Muslim Bakery, he inspired black empowerment, self-reliance, and economic advancement at such a young age.
There are many of you who benefited from his work in just 2 short years of his reign, from his words, from the focus of his thoughts on one thing: our empowerment through our own actions, our own steps, our own journey.
Many times we try to get other people to do it for us. It feels like maybe if we complain about it enough, someone else will do it for us. America can kind of trick you in that way, into thinking that the lazy man can prosper by being a little more crafty, a little more creative than the hard-working man.
But Yusuf knew that as a lie. He knew what a temptation that was, and he always rejected it. Our salvation will come from our hands, our redemption will come through our work, and our future will begin when we do something about it, when we act, when we take control of ourselves and live in a different way. It is our choices and our work that matters, not the words we speak to one another. It is all incumbent upon us, each of us, to be greater, stronger, better than we are today.
The best prophets challenge us, and many of the best prophets were not appreciated in their time.
There is a reason the system chose Yusuf Bey IV as a target, why his message was so dangerous that it had to be silenced with judicial violence.
This site will give you the facts, so you can learn what lies were said. You will get the truth, so you can learn about Yusuf’s innocence. I will give you the facts and information that will show you that the trial was a farce, that Yusuf Bey IV was an amazing person whose voice is one that we need back, and together we will work to free him.
ALAMEDA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT Case# 160939A,B. This case involves the murder of Oakland Post journalist Chauncey Bailey on Aug 2, 2007, as well as the murders of two other men, Odel Roberson on July 8th 2007, and Michael Wills four days later, July 12th 2007. Business CEO Yusuf Bey IV and former Your Black Muslim Bakery employee Antoine Mackey were charged with all three murders (Pen. Code 187). In a joint single trial, Yusuf was convicted of all 3 first degree murders, with special circumstances findings of multiple murders on each of the murder convictions (S 190.2, subd. (a)(3) ). Yusuf was sentenced to three life terms without the possibility of parole. Devaughndre Broussard who was also an employee at Your Black Muslim Bakery turned state’s witness in exchange for a sentence of 25 years, avoiding two life terms without parole. According to court documents and Grand Jury testimony, Broussard admitted to 2 of the 3 murders, that of Bailey and Roberson, claiming he did so on the “Orders” of Bey IV. It was only through his fabricated testimony that the Prosecution was able to convict Bey IV on June 9, 2011 in Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland after almost two weeks of deliberation. No other physical evidence, eyewitness testimony, witness statements, DNA, or other corroborating evidence incriminating Yusuf were presented at trial by the prosecution, as they do not exist. Yusuf has adamentally maintained his innocence since his arrest.
